North Africa
I was not even 3 months when I first travelled to Tunisia with my parents. And stayed there for 3 years. I don’t remember much but when browsing the family albums from these times, it seemed to be a lot of fun there.
During the weekends on the beach in Hammamet, first steps in old town Medina, omnipresent smell of jasmin and spices on the soukh (market) and camels when travelling to desert. Now, it seems unimaginable how many adventures we had sleeping in troglodyte houses, sailing on Felukhas (traditional fisher boats) in Kerkennah with Messier Dolphin:-). What I remeber the most from Tunisia however, is the collecting of shells any time we went to the sea side or splashing water on the breath taking mosaics of the ancient Roman period.
My amazing nanny Monja, who was and still is considered as part of our family. My first revolution experience during the Arab spring. Meeting Kubko, my tunisian twin:-) and all the lovely friends.
Eating couscous or my very favourite (that time) red spaghetti with sea food, fresh pommegranades juice, the local sweets full of honey and nuts, the smell of the sea.
Watching my parents drink a cup of “berber whiskey” (traditional sweet tea) in Sidi Bou Said overlooking the harbour, the local women trying to kiss me whenever walking at the parc of Belveder (I was the only blonde there:-) .
I also can’t wait to read the diary my mum wrote from that time to discover more and to highlight and tell you few of the stories and adventures I don’t remember.
